Hello, my name is Jonathan Chu. I am a student of KS 1 at Friedrich-Wöhler-Gymnasium. One day my English teacher and tutor, Mr Ehlerding, approached me and asked if I would like to take part in a BBC project in which I was supposed to interview various people. I immediately accepted the offer, knowing what a rare occasion it was to participate in such an interesting project with a high-profile organisation like the BBC. Soon afterwards I met with BBC reporter Tim, who was very friendly and actively supported and advised me throughout the entire project. His support was very helpful since I had never conducted interviews before. Tim explained to me that in his BBC Project 17, 17-year-old students from all over the world helped compile a radio program about an important topic of the country they were from. My part of the program addressed the internet infrastructure in Germany. I had the chance to interview many experts on the topic, such as local representatives from the city of Singen, experts on broadband technology and some officials from the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. However, most of the interviews took place online as face-to-face meetings were not possible due to the pandemic.
